### Double Leg Trap Escape #### Position: - **Initial Position**: Bottom position in Side Control #### Objective: - Escape from an inferior side control position where your opponent has secured both your legs. #### Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. **Assess and Stabilize**:<br> Begin by calming down and assessing the pressure your opponent is applying. Ensure that your elbows are in and close to your body to prevent arm isolations from your opponent. 2. **Head Control**: If possible, push against your opponent's head or shoulder using the hand closest to their head. This will create slight space to maneuver. 3. **Shrimp and Frame**: Initiate a shrimping motion (bridging and hip escaping simultaneously) to create a small amount of space between your hips and your opponent's chest. - Place your free hand (the one furthest from your legs) onto their hip or thigh as a frame. 4. **Leg Trap Adjustment**: The leg closest to your opponent will be trapped between their legs. Adjust this leg by placing it closer to their lower body, aiming to establish better leverage. 5. **Bridge and Turn**: Execute a powerful bridge towards your opponent to disrupt their balance for a split second. Combine this with turning to face them, attempting to turn towards your opponent. 6. **Underhook and Turn Off**: With your free arm, seek to underhook and reach across your opponent's back. Use this movement to begin turning onto your knees or back into them. 7. **Fight for the Top**: As you turn, fight to capture their legs with your knees. This may provide you opportunities to either achieve top position or continue pushing them away to create distance. 8. **Follow-up Options**: - Once you've escaped, you can: - Regain guard by shrimping and bringing your legs in front. - Attempt to take the back by continuing the movement with your underhook. - Transition to a bidding half guard where you may have opportunities to sweep. ### Tips: - Always maintain a tight frame against your opponent's shoulder or hip to limit their control. - The under-hook battle is crucial; dominate this area to secure the advantage. - Don’t rush; work with proper timing and leverage. This sequence will help neuter your opponent's hold over your legs and provide you with offensive opportunities from the bottom position in side control.
