## X-guard Entry From Butterfly Guard
### Position
- **Position:** Butterfly Guard
### Detailed Instructions
1. **Your Starting Position:**
- Begin in a seated Butterfly Guard position with both feet placed inside your opponent's thighs.
- Maintain a tight overhook grip with your right arm around your opponent's left arm or back of the neck. Your left hand can post on the mat or maintain balance by framing out.
2. **Create Distance:**
- Push forward slightly with your left arm to engage your opponent's base.
- Use a scooting motion with your hips, bringing your hips slightly backwards to create space between you and your opponent.
3. **Transition to X-Guard**
- Using the space you’ve created, shift your weight slightly to the right and elevate your right hip.
- Tuck your right leg underneath your opponent’s left leg and maneuver your body so your right shoulder touches the mat.
- Swing your left leg around, hooking your opponent's right thigh from behind by bringing your left instep to the outside of their leg.
4. **Build the X-Guard Structure:**
- Gently pull your opponent’s left leg off the mat using your right hand under their knee, while your right leg hooks inside their left thigh.
- Place your left foot on the top of their left shin (opponent’s leg you are elevating) for control, forming an 'X' with your legs.
5. **Secure X-Guard**
- Control your opponent’s left knee with your left hand, maintaining pressure.
- Ensure your powerful position by adjusting your hooks and leaning back slightly to keep your opponent's weight elevated and off-balance.
### Tips:
- Ensure that you maintain proper balance while transitioning to the X-Guard by engaging your core and adjusting your grips as needed.
- Experiment with varying grips (sleeve, collar, belt) depending on your opponent's responses to maintain control.
- Elevate your opponent's leg to prevent them from driving back into you or securing a stable base. **
### Common Follow-ups:
- **X-Guard Sweep:** Once balanced, consider sweeping your opponent's elevated leg sideways to destabilize them, following up with a pass.
- **Single-leg Attack:** Transition to a standing single-leg by standing up in base while maintaining control of your opponent’s leg.
