### Description
The "Heisman Escape" is an innovative Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu technique. It's often utilized as a powerful escape from the bottom position when pinned in **Side Control**. The maneuver borrows its name from the iconic Heisman Trophy pose, signifying the ability to create space effectively and transitioning out of a tight spot.

### Position
- Side Control
### Step-by-Step Instructions
#### Starting Position
1. **Opponent has you in Side Control:**
- Your opponent is lying across your body, usually with one arm under your neck and the other across your abdomen, attempting to maintain control.
#### The Escape Sequence
2. **Create a Frame:**
- Use your near-side arm (the one nearest your opponent) to create a frame across their neck by placing your forearm against their throat or chest.
- Your far-side arm should be placed across their waist or hip.
3. **Position Your Legs:**
- Bring your far leg up, planting the foot on the mats.
- Your other leg protests or slightly tucked underneath to provide leverage.
4. **Bridge and Shrimp:**
- Initiate an explosive bridge. Use the momentum and drive off your planted foot.
- As you bridge, simultaneously _shrimp_ your hips away from your opponent using the leverage created by your arms. This will create the necessary space.
5. **Insert Your Knee:**
- With the space created, quickly slide your near-side knee in between yourself and your opponent's torso, pivoting on your planted foot.
- This push creates distance between you two.
6. **Transition to Guard:**
- Use the space to bring your far leg around and establish either the Closed Guard or Open Guard.
- Secure your grips to regain control.
### Tips
- **Breathing:** Keep your breathing steady. Sudden, tense breaths can waste energy and reduce efficiency.
- **Timing:** The Heisman Escape is timed. Execute with minimal delay once space has been created, allowing rapid insertion of your knee.
- **Monitoring your Opponent:** Keep an eye on any attempts of your opponent to adjust their angle or effort they may make to maintain control.
### Recap
The Heisman Escape is an elegant move with the aim of turning a disadvantageous Side Control position into an advantageous Guard position. By practicing this technique regularly, both fundamental coordination and timing will be honed, assisting in fluid transitions during matches or training sessions.
