### North-South Sit Out
#### Description:
The North-South Sit Out is a technique used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to transition from a defensive or neutral position into an offensive position, either securing a more dominant spot or setting up for submissions. This move is particularly useful in both gi and no-gi grappling.
#### Possible Position:
- **North South**: Used when the practitioner finds themselves in the North-South position with the opponent similarly positioned in reverse.
#### Japanese Name:
- **N/A**
### Step-by-Step Instructions
1. **Establish Base and Control**
Ensure a strong base in the North-South position by spreading your legs wide and maintaining a low center of gravity. Your chest should be over your opponent's chest, keeping your weight on them while maintaining balance.
2. **Identify Underhook Opportunities**
Look for an underhook on one of your opponent's arms. This position can be achieved by reaching underneath their arm with your near hand while grounding your opposite hand for balance.
3. **Create Space and Break Opponent’s Grip**
- Use your elbow or the shoulder of the arm that is securing the underhook to create space against your opponent’s arm.
- Work to strip your opponent’s grip on your hips if they have encircled you with either an overhook or a gable grip.
4. **Sit Out Execution**
- Turn your hips towards the underhooked side, allowing your buttocks to touch the mat.
- Your far leg should go around and plant on the mat, creating an angle for your sit out.
- Push backward with your shoulders and pivot sharply to bring your body around the side with the underhook.
5. **Establish Control**
- As you complete your sit out, work to secure upper body control by maintaining your underhook and establishing either a side control or back position.
- Use your free arm to control their hips or reach across to establish a cross-face for further stabilization.
6. **Transition Opportunity**
- If applicable, look for further offensive options from here, such as transitioning to mount or setting up submissions like a Kimura, armbar, or a north-south choke.
### Tips:
- Maintain a strong base by keeping your hips low and weight centered throughout the move.
- Timing is crucial; perform the sit out quickly to avoid the opponent’s counterattacks.
- Keep your opponent's body pinned with your chest to ensure they cannot adjust or counter as easily.
