### D'Arce Choke
The D'Arce Choke, also known as the Brabo Choke, is a powerful submission technique in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu often employed from various top and transitioning positions. This choke is especially effective when the opponent is attempting to control you in the side control position or when they are trying to defend against guard passes.
#### Position:
- **Side Control**
- **Turtle**
- **Half Guard**
#### Japanese Name:
- **D'asu Chōku**
### Step-by-Step Instructions:
#### From Side Control:
1. **Secure the Position:**
- Establish a strong side control position over your opponent, ensuring your hips are low to the mat, and your weight is on your opponent.
2. **Entice the Opponent to Reach for Underhook:**
- Gently create space to bait your opponent into securing an underhook with their far-side arm (toward your head side).
3. **Thread Your Arm:**
- As the opponent reaches for the underhook, thread your near-side arm underneath their arm, wrapping around the back of their neck.
4. **Grip and Secure:**
- With your threading arm (right arm in description), grab the opponent's neck or the clothing for gi adjustments; reach under your own arm and hold your opposite bicep.
5. **Apply Pressure:**
- Now, rotate the trapped arm flat on the ground and scoot to your opponent's head-side while squeezing your grip and applying forward pressure onto the chest with your shoulder.
6. **Finish the Choke:**
- Drive your weight forward, tuck your head tight into your opponent, and squeeze your arms together like channeling pressure, compressing their neck and squeezing the opponent's head and arm together.
#### From Turtle Position:
1. **Control the Opponent:**
- Start from a turtle position with the opponent on all fours.
2. **Thread the Arm:**
- As your opponent tries to defend, thread your near-side arm (e.g., right arm) across their neck and under their arm.
3. **Grip and Secure:**
- Reach for your opposite bicep with your threading arm, ensuring a tight grip.
4. **Collapse the Base:**
- Use your legs to hook or collapse one of their bases, often pulling them towards their side.
5. **Finish the Choke:**
- Apply the scissor motion of compressing their neck with your arms, with continuous forward pressure towards their shoulder line.
### Considerations:
- Make sure your grips are snug but not forceful, avoiding muscular tension.
- Ensure movable positioning to avoid being rolled over by an opponent.
The D'Arce Choke is a versatile submission move that leverages both your positional dominance and your opponent's reactions to secure a swift submission. Through practice and control, it can become a reliable tool in your grappling arsenal.
